Thrillers Aimed at Women- by Maud Start

Thrillers that appeal to women are quite common; generally they have aspects of film that will specifically stand out and appeal to women. This can include a female lead role, children, and limited amounts of blood and gore. Although it may sound sexist women are less likely to be intrigued by battles and war, and the blood and guts that men are so attracted to.Part of the allure of thrillers comes from not only what their stories are about but how they are told. The plot of a thriller is usually driven by the villain, who presents obstacles that the hero must overcome. One of the first ever thrillers was Harold Lloyd's comic Safety last (1923), with the all-American boy performing a daredevil stunt on the side of a skyscraper. Thrillers have progressed some what since 1923, Alfred Hitchcock extended the genre towards physcological and suspense thrillers, and produced films such as Psycho which is now considered as one of his best films. The top 3 rated thrillers are 'The Godfather' (1972), 'The Godfather 2' (1974) and the recent film, which impressed millions with it's flashy special effects, 'Inception' (2010). A thriller is fundamentally designed to create a sudden rush of emotions, excitement, a sense of suspense, apprehension, an exhileration that drive the narrative, sometimes subtly with peaks and lulls, sometimes at a constant, breakneck pace.
Examples of modern Thrillers aimed at women:

Lovely Bones
The Others
The Children
The Ring
